Working principle of swing check valve:

1. The opening and closing principle of swing check valve is the same as that of lifting check valve, which also depends on the action of fluid pressure and the weight of the valve disc. The difference is that the opening and closing way of the valve disc is rotating motion rather than moving up and down, and the inlet direction of the fluid should be on the side that can impact the rotation of the valve disc.

2. The closing part of swing check valve is a disc or disc equivalent to the diameter of the pipeline. It is suspended in the valve chamber.

3. Swing check valve consists of body, cover, disc and rocker. The disc is disc-shaped and rotates around the pin outside the seat channel. The valve channel is streamlined, the flow resistance is smaller than the straight through type lift check valve, suitable for large diameter pipelines. But at low pressure, its sealing performance is not as good as the lift type check valve. In order to improve the sealing performance, auxiliary spring or auxiliary hammer structure can be used to seal.

4, because of the weight of the disc, swing check valve open, the resistance to the fluid is relatively large. In addition, because the disc is suspended in the fluid, the fluid can be turbulent. This also indicates that the fluid pressure drop through swing check valves is greater than the pressure drop through other types of check valves. When the flow direction changes suddenly, the disc will close violently against the seat, causing a lot of seat wear and water hammer along the line. To overcome this problem, damping devices can be installed on the disc and metal seats can be used to reduce seat wear.

Swing check valves work somewhat similar to globe valves, are the fluid through the lift check valve channel is narrow, so the pressure through the lift check valve is larger than the swing check valve, and swing check valve flow is limited.
